Domain Names
How do I choose a domain name?
We
can help you with choosing your domain name. If you let us know
what keywords, phrases, or descriptions you want / don’t want in your
domain name, we can provide you with some options. We will work
on refining these options with you until you have selected a domain
name you are happy with.
Alternatively, if you want to do this
process yourself, you can use any of the following websites to search
for available domains. Once you have seen an available domain
that you want, just let us know and we will register it for you.
What if I want a second domain name?
If
you want a second domain name, we can do this for you. If it is a
new website / template, then the standard fees will apply.
If
you want a second domain that redirects to your main domain (eg
www.mydomain.co.uk to be redirected to www.mydomain.com) then this can
be done. Please contact us for information and prices for the
second domain.
What happens when I don’t want the domain anymore?
If
you later decide that you do not want the domain (or any of the web
hosting / email) please let us know and we will let the domain
name expire naturally. Upon expiration, the domain name will then
be available again to the public and we cannot guarantee that it will
be available should you wish to use it again in the future.
If
you decided that you want to use a different domain name, but still use
the same website, please contact us with details of what domain name
you want to change to, and we can advise on the process and the cost.
What happens if I want to move my domain to another host or provider?
Should
you want to move your domain to another domain hosting provider please
let us know and we will do everything we can to help you migrate the
domain as quickly as possible.
We do not charge you to
transfer a domain name out. You will need to check with your new
domain host provider whether you will incur any charges on transferring
a domain in. Website Options
How many pages can I have?
The
current templates are set up for 6 unique pages. We would
recommend having a “home” page and an “about us” and/or a “contact us”
page.
The other pages are for you to choose what you
want on them. You may want pricing structures, general
information, customer recommendations / feedback, or you may just want
to leave them blank.
Can you change the page layout?
Yes,
we can change each page layout to a minor extent. This can
include additional areas for images / photographs, having sections set
aside for text, offers, etc…
If you have a vision of what you
want, the best way to share this is to include it as a sketch so that
we can incorporate it when we are building your website.
Can you make a custom website?
We
use a few select templates as a basis to create your website. To
keep costs low, these are basic in design and relatively easy to update
with text, images, and overall colour scheme.
We do not build
custom websites – eg we do not add on shopping carts, we do not have
java or other scripts running, we do not have dynamic menus or drop
down options.
If you require a custom website, please
contact us as we may be able to direct you to a website
developer. The website files can then be hosted on your domain
name.
Can you host a website I have made?
Yes,
we can host a website that you (or another company) has made. The
website will not be able to run any server-side scripts. There is
no charge for this.
What if I don’t have any pictures / images of my company to use?
We can find some generic images for use on your website to make it more engaging for visitors.
Please
let us know if you have any affiliations with any professional trade
bodies, as we can include these on the website as well. Email Options
What is email forwarding?
Email
forwarding is where a customer sends an email to one email address, and
the server then forwards it on to a second email address.
For example, an email sent to “enquiries@yourdomain.co.uk” can be automatically forwarded to “john@hotmail.co.uk”.
The
person who sent the email will not know that the email was forwarded,
ensuring a professional online look, whilst you can still receive all
enquiries via your current generic email address.
How do I use webmail?
Webmail is similar to using hotmail, gmail, or any other generic free email account company.
You can access webmail by going to www.yourdomain.co.uk/webmail
We can also include a link to your webmail on your website.
On
the webmail page, you can log in using your email address and
password. The standard inbox, sent, trash, draft folders can then
be accessed and you can configure the webmail software to your own
preferences.
Currently you can use three interfaces to access
your webmail. They all do the same, but vary in appearance.
Which one you use is up to your own personal preference. The
interfaces are : Horde, Roundcube, and SquirrelMail.
What is POP3 /IMAP?
POP3 / IMAP is an internet-standard for using email clients.
Essentially, the act like the postman, delivering your email.
POP3 takes the mail and sends it to your PC that is running your email client software.
IMAP lets you view the mail on the server via your email client but does not send it to your PC.
Should I use POP3 or IMAP?
This is your own choice.
POP3
downloads the emails to your PC or device, so the email server is
cleared down (you do not require so much storage space). But you
are not able to access your email from another PC.
IMAP allows
you to view (and delete, send, etc.) emails on the server. This is
useful if you want to view emails from a variety of sources (eg Work
PC, Home PC, mobile phone, etc). The disadvantage is that the
emails stay on the server (unless deleted) so you may require a larger
storage space on the server unless you regular archive or download your
emails.
Can I use both webmail and POP3/IMAP?
Yes,
you can use both webmail and POP3/IMAP. If you configure your
POP3/IMAP software to leave your messages on the server, then when you
use webmail you will be able to see all your messages.
Occasionally
this will require you to archive / clear your email inbox / sent box to
ensure that you do not reach your storage capacity limit. You can
use your email software to move your emails from the server to a local
archive/folder. These are normally stored as *.eml files and can
be read and opened by most email software should you need to access
them at a later date.
What email client software should I use to get my emails?
This is your own personal preference. Email clients include :
Windows Live Mail® Microsoft Outlook 2010® for Windows® Microsoft Outlook 2007® for Windows® Microsoft Outlook 2000® for Windows® Microsoft Outlook Express® for Windows® MacOS® Mail.app® Postbox® iOS for iPhone/iPad/iPod Mozilla Thunderbird® KDE Kmail
Using our services
What should I do first?
Please
contact us for an application pack or download one from here. At
this stage, if you have a preference for a domain name that you know is
available, or keywords you would like in your domain name, please let
us know.
The application pack will contain templates that we
need to help create your website, understand what level of services /
options you require, and what the next steps are.
In essence, we
work with you to find a domain name you want. Once payment is
received we register your chosen domain name, create your website, host
your website, and create your email addresses.
What if I want to change anything?
Once your domain name is registered, we cannot change this for you as the domain name needs to be paid for a year in advance.
If
you want to change the data / details on your new website, or want to
change the email addresses, we will do this free of charge for the
first 4 weeks as part of the settling in / implementation period.
Any changes required after this would be charged as outlined on our
packages page.
